Chill

See how people chill in Atlantic City????

We spent a week in Atlantic City last week for a national dance competition that Mira and Macy participated in with their dance team.
I noticed a lot of homeless people and disabled people on the boardwalk.
Macy and I talked to a few......one man had no legs and the other lady had one leg but only the use of one arm. We bought them cold drinks and talked to each of them for awhile. Macy noticed how happy they seemed. She thought they should be depressed given their place in life.
I noticed they were at such a slow pace and enjoying the day.......sometimes I don't enjoy my day when I hustle and bustle about.
I hope you enjoy the article below....it is a note to myself: "relax the frontal lobe."
Namaste,
Michele

How to Slow Down

1. Drink a cup of tea, put your feet up and stare idly out of the window. Warning: Do not attempt this while driving.

2. Do one thing at a time. Remember multitasking is a moral weakness (except for women who have superior brain function.)

3. Do not be pushed into answering questions. A response is not the same as an answer. Ponder, take your time.

4. Learn our Slow Manifesto.

5. Yawn often. Medical studies have shown lots of things, and possibly that yawning may be good for you.

6. Spend more time in bed. You have a better chance of cultivating your dreams (not your aspirations.)

7. Read the slow stories.

8. Spend more time in the bathtub. (See letter from Major Smythe-Blunder.)

9. Practice doing nothing. (Yes this is the difficult one.)

10. Avoid too much seriousness. Laugh, because you're only alive on planet earth for a limited time.

I would have fewer imaginary troubles too!

I'd Pick More Daisies
By Nadine Stair, age 85

If I had my life to live over, I'd try to make more mistakes next time. I would relax. I would limber up. I would be sillier than I have on this trip. I would be crazier. I would be less hygienic. I would take more chances, I would take more trips. I would climb more mountains, swim more rivers, and watch more sunsets. I would burn more gasoline. I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would have more actual troubles and fewer imaginary ones. You see, I am one of those people who lives prophylactically and sensibly and sanely, hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I have had my moments And if I had it to do over again, I'd have more of them. In fact, I'd try to have nothing else. Just moments, one after another. Instead of living so many years ahead each day. I have been one of those people who never go anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a gargle, a raincoat, and a parachute. If I had to do it over again, I would go places and do things. I'd travel lighter than I have. If I had my life to live over, I would start barefooted earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would play hooky more. I wouldn't make such good grades except by accident. I would ride on merry-go-rounds. I'd pick more daisies!

Life

So much of what we do in life is insignificant.
So many things that we think are so important,
End up being meaningless when we step back and look.
So step forward and look into the microscope;
Examine your life and your intentions.

If you feel that things are out of sync
Then change them, change something.
Often, change is what we fear the most
When in reality, it is the best thing for us.

Don’t ask life to come to you,
Ask life to catch up with you.
Don’t wait for miracles,
Create and design your own.

Don’t hold out for other people’s approval,
March right past them.
Knowing that as long as you do what is right for you, for your heart,
No one else’s approval matters.

Don’t sit on the sidelines and be a spectator,
Get in the game and participate.
And if you lose, you will have learned something,
Even if it was at the expense of your pride.

Don’t allow anyone to judge you,
Harsher then you would judge yourself.
For negative criticism has a nasty way of
Picking at your soul and damaging your self-worth.

Don’t wait around for things to happen,
But don’t rush them either.
Push the world at a pace,
That makes you comfortable.

Remember the saying,
Sometimes when you hold out for everything,
You end up with nothing.
Don’t permit that to happen to you.

And most of all, remind yourself,
That this life was given to you on a blank piece of expensive canvas.
It is up to you to paint your picture,
As bright and as colorful as possible, or as muted and quiet as you desire.

Do with it what you want,
Compromise only when you feel necessary,
And be proud of what you have painted.
It will be your greatest legacy.
