Patience

Quote

"He knows that you can't force an understanding. You have to let it happen. It has to coalesce, not unlike love or
pudding, he supposes. You stir and stir and watch the bubbles break the surface, you wait and keep the perfect heat underneath it and if you are very patient it finally, suddenly thickens up, silky shiny smooth as if to say, 'This is what I always meant to be. Thank you for waiting. You may now lick the spoon'."

walking through life

We are all too much inclined to walk through life
with our eyes shut. There are things all around us,
and right at our very feet, that we have never seen;
because we have never really looked.

the best things in life

"Would you sell both your eyes for a million dollars...
or your two legs..or your hands...or your hearing?
Add up what you do have,
and you'll find you won't sell them for all the gold in the world.
The best things in life are yours, if you can appreciate them."

You are what you perceive

"A verse from the Veda says,
'What you see, you become.'
In other words,
just the experience
of perceiving the world makes you what you are.
This
is a quite literal statement."

The great Turning

this picture was taken at a technical rehearsal a few weeks ago.
Macy is the second one.
I thought it looked kinda cool.
Below is a beautiful poem that seemed to resonate with me.
I am so looking forward to camping and being in nature.....this poem reminds me of that.
have a great day!!
love,
Michele

PRAYER FOR THE GREAT TURNING

May the turning of the Earth save us.
May the turning of the seasons & the turning of the leaves save us.
May we be saved by the worms, the beetles & the microbes turning the soil.
May we be saved by the turning of vegetation into compost
& the turning of compost into rich soil.
May the turning of seeds into plants & the turning of flowers
into fruits save us.
May the grasses & weeds, the vines & mosses all conspire to save us.
May we be saved by the turning of sprouts into saplings, of saplings into trees,
& the trees into forests.
May the scurrying, foraging, pouncing & lumbering of the animals save us.

May the breath of heaven in the breezes & the stormy winds save us.
May the dance of the butterflies, & the musical flight & return
of the birds save us.
May we be saved by vapors turning into clouds & by the turning of
the ever-changing clouds into rain.
May the waters flowing from springs into the lakes save us.
May the streams flowing into rivers, the rivers into seas,
& the great heaving of the oceans save us.
May we be saved by the patient turning of the rocks, the hills,
the mountains, & the volcanoes.
May the metabolism of the climates of the Earth save us.
May the turnings of all Beings great & small move us to find wisdom in our own turnings.

May we be saved by our waking & sleeping, by the rhythms of our blood
& our appetites, by the cycles of birthing & nurturing, injury & healing,
mating & nesting, loss & discovery, joy & mourning.
May we find in time the grace to turn to one another, & may this turning
also become our salvation.
May we learn to benefit the life of Earth with peace, humble in our needs,
& generous in our giving.
May we learn to celebrate the abundance of life with gratitude, & to embrace
the Earth with our bodies in return.

Love

A view from Macy's and her friend, Tessa's dorm room last week.
hope you love the beautiful quote below!!!
Namaste,
Michele

Love is an expression of the willingness to create space
in which something is allowed to change.
The change may be in terms of growth or decay, evolution, transformation,
integration, or other natural development
that is in accord with the intention of the creator.

Our true wealth

Mira and Macy were at Orchestra camp all last week at Baldwin Wallace College.
We got to eat dinner with them on Friday and hear their performance in each of their
orchestras. Anyway, in the student union, there was this wall with all of these beautiful quotes. This is one of my favorites.
Hope you like the quote below too!!
love,
Michele

Our true wealth is the good we do in this world.
None of us has faith unless we desire for our neighbors
what we desire for ourselves.

Education

Education is much more than
a matter of imparting the knowledge
and skills by which narrow goals are achieved.
It is also about opening the child's eyes to the needs

On being a mushroom

Marko up to bat
Mark pitching....Marko made it to third
Marko being coached by Coach Tom
Marko running for home

Hi!! I was feeling frustrated today at work because Mark called me and said we owe 10,000 to the goverment for federal taxes. (we filed for an extension) My friend, Roberta, (an awesome nurse that I work with) said that one of the social workers told her this quote.....Jean said it was a quote from her dad "if your only problems can be fixed by 50,000 dollars than you don't really have any problems." It is true...we have 3 healthy kids.....one which just played an awesome baseball game tonight...... very, very active grandparents that do so much with our kids. awesome friends and jobs we love...a wonderful neighborhood........daughters who love to dance and are able to do so much.....(I miss them so much this week...they are at orchestra camp at Balwin Wallace college.) what am I worried about? Thank you Roberta for putting my priorities in place!! Hope you love the quote below!!! Love, Michele
"I know a planet where there is a certain red-faced gentleman. He has never smelled a flower. He has never looked at a star. He has never loved any one. He has never done anything in his life but add up figures. And all day he says over and over, just like you: 'I am busy with matters of consequence!' And that makes him swell up with pride. But he is not a man--he is a mushroom!" --

being alive

To be alive: not just the carcass
But the spark.
That's crudely put, but ...
If we're not supposed to dance,
Why all this music?

Loosing the ego

The Mystical

Velvet Elvis!!!!!!

The most beautiful and profound emotion we can experience
is the sensation of the mystical.
It is the sower of all true science.
He to whom this emotion is a stranger,
who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe,
is as good as dead.
To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists,
manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty,
which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive forms -
this knowledge, this feeling,
is at the center of true religion.

"Somewhere Else"

I found the perfect velvet painting in a vintage store on High st. in Columbus!!!
Namaste,
Michele

I love this Brad Warner quote and I hope you do too:

Every single human being in the world at some time thinks that "if only" this or that one of our conditions could be met then we'd be happy. "If only I had a girlfriend/boyfriend/million bucks, then I'd be happy." Or in the case of the more spiritually minded: "If only I were enlightened, then that would settle everything once and for all." Think again.

An old Chinese Zen Master once said, "From birth to death it's just like this!"

Wherever you go in the world of human beings is pretty much the same. Only the details are different. All of my gaijin teacher friends who wanted to get out of Japan and back to the "real world" have discovered that the "real world" is hardly any different than the place they were leaving.

We always want to believe that somewhere there's a perfect situation, if only we weren't barred from it. But that's not the reality.

We always imagine that there's got to be somewhere else better than where we are right now, the great "Somewhere Else" we all carry around in our heads. We believe Somewhere Else is out there for us if only we could find it. But there's no Somewhere Else. Everything is right here.

On happiness

picture I took at rehearsal last week .....this is the stage setting for Mira and Macy's recital.

"We all have a primordial instinct for happiness.
This instinct moves us toward enlightenment."

Relationships

Individuals do not exist in isolation, but in relationship and
that individual existents are unique (and irreplaceable in the future)
by virtue of the special set of relationships
in which only they are (and can remain) embedded.
The world is therefore seen in organismic terms rather
than mechanical ones, in terms of interacting processes a
nd fields rather than isolated things, and socially, in terms of an extended ecological community rather than in terms of essentially separate, competing individuals.

artistic expression and life force

I loved this. This is a body piercing place on High St. at Ohio State University.
I love going back to visit OSU.......
hope you enjoy the words below.
Eliezer showed up on my blog and I am glad he did.
There is a link to his blog (the 99th monkey) under my kindred spirits.

"Whether one is letting oneself go into a cathartic, wild dance; singing songs and sounds full out from a surrendered heart; or writing or painting with unbridled abandon and freedom, the principle is always the same: The arts are an exquisite vehicle for exploring the fundamental spiritual fact of life — that in any given moment, we have the capacity to drop, or step aside from, the narrow, limited, me-oriented personality and allow a deeper, mysterious expression to pass through us, one that moves way beyond mere 'self-expression' in that it emerges from an inner well that is interconnected and one with the Whole of existence. It is our true originality and vision, our unique piece of the cosmic puzzle that is our responsibility and mission to contribute."

Peace, Love and Dance

above are pictures from Mira and Macy's dance recital which was last night and tonight.
The theme is "Peace, Love and Dance."...........It has lots of great songs.......
Macy does a ballet number to a Led Zeppelin song (stairway to heaven)....and Mira does one to an Allman Brother song (Jessica).......how cool is that??
Mira and Macy are each in 11 dances.
of course, I loved it......I love watching them dance.
Marko went to the Indians game last night with my dad.
They are going to come tonight......I did not think I could subject Marko to two dance recitals.
Marko was telling me about the Indian's game last night with "grandpie".......some guy was sitting by them and yelling really loud "the padre's suck"......Marko told me his favorite player couldn't play (Pronk) because his shoulder is "all tore up."
I love hearing about his observations......how a guy selling pop was walking around shouting "I have one pop left." and one guy was yelling "Beer" really loud.
anyway I hope you like the Piglet song below.
love,
Michele

Piglet's Song

Let's find a Way today,
that can take us to tomorrow.
We'll follow that Way,
A Way like flowing water.

Let's leave behind,
the things that do not matter.
And we'll turn our lives,
to a more important chapter.

Let's take the time and try to find,
what real life has to offer.
And maybe then we'll find again,
what we had long forgotten.
Like a friend, true 'til the end,
it will help us onward.

The sun is high, the road is wide,
and it starts where we are standing.
No one knows how far it goes,
for the road is never-ending.

It goes away,
beyond what we have thought of.
It flows away,
Away like flowing water.

~ Benjamin Hoff ~
(The Te of Piglet)

be like gandhi

"One day Maharajji said to me, 'Do you know Gandhi?'

I said, 'No, I don't know him. I've heard about him.'

He said, 'Well, you learn how to be like Gandhi.'

And I couldn't quite gather what he meant, so the next day I went into town and I bought those little glasses Gandhi used to wear. But that didn't make any difference in my life. Then I got a mouse pad for my computer and there was a picture of Gandhi and it said, 'My life is my message.' That must have been what Maharajji meant."

- Ram Dass

Instructions

Is the below poem beautiful or what???
Namaste,
Michele

Instructions

Give up the world; give up self; finally, give up God.
Find god in rhododendrons and rocks,
passers-by, your cat.
Pare your beliefs, your absolutes.
Make it simple; make it clean.
No carry-on luggage allowed.
Examine all you have
with a loving and critical eye, then
throw away some more.
Repeat. Repeat.
Keep this and only this:
what your heart beats loudly for
what feels heavy and full in your gut.
There will only be one or two
things you will keep,
and they will fit lightly
in your pocket.

Imagination

And many prefer not to exercise their imaginations at all. They choose to remain comfortably within the bounds of their own experience, never troubling to wonder how it would feel to have been born other than they are. They can refuse to hear screams or to peer inside cages; they can close their minds and hearts to any suffering that does not touch them personally; they can refuse to know.

I might be tempted to envy people who can live that way, except that I do not think they have any fewer nightmares than I do. Choosing to live in narrow spaces can lead to a form of mental agoraphobia, and that brings its own terrors. I think the wilfully unimaginative see more monsters. They are often more afraid.

-JK Rowling

letting go

the poem below is the message that keeps showing up for me.....
letting go......no resistance........giving people the freedom to be stupid and
not having to change them. (for maybe I will find out later that I was the one being stupid.)
anyway...hope you enjoy the words below as much as I do!!!!!
love,
Michele

MANIC SCREAMING

We should make all spiritual talk
Simple today:

God is trying to sell you something,
But you don't want to buy.

That is what your suffering is:

Your fantastic haggling,
Your manic screaming over the price.
